guess who?

this is the fred moore version of woody.
it looks like the woody woodpecker show
version to me. i personally like the older versions
better, but maybe that's just me.

another favorite woody design
of mine is the emery hawkins version.
i believe these drawings are for "the dippy diplomat".
i definitely recommend this "cartune", as walter lantz
probably would have said. not the recommending part,
but the cartune part. oh, whatever.

timeless....

i love these very early rough sketches of woody
woodpecker so much. it would've been an honor
to meet the artist. i particularly like the early
forties version of woody. it always amazes me to
see how much a cartoon character can change so
dramatically over the years. he first starred in a
short appropriately and simply titled "woody woodpecker".
his final theatrical short was titled "bye bye blackboard".
the name almost seems fitting, as it was bye bye for woody.
